What do you want to donate?
First decide what would be the best way for you to participate. Can you donate time, money, goods, or host an event? What is best for your facility? What fits your company culture? Go with one or all options. Forecasting your level of involvement will improve your experience.
Choose a type of charity or organization that you can continue to support long term.
However you decide to support your local community, keep it going year after year. Having several years of support to a cause or organization not only makes it easier for you to participate, it shows how much you care. Your local community and employees will recognize this.
You and employees should volunteer your time
Look for opportunities to volunteer your time. Often charitable organizations can be shorthanded. These volunteer opportunities are not always glamourous but the extra pair of hands you provide could mean the world. Your time and physical presence can mean more to the organization than money.
Places where you can donate your time:
- Schools
- Daycares
- Animal Shelters
- Hospitals
- Retirement homes
- Neighborhood clean-ups
- Community theater
Open your facility to host an event
When offering to host an event beware that your facility maybe utilized for more than just the event. You should expect usage of your facility to include planning meetings, setup, the event, clean up, and potentially a post thank you event for the volunteers. You may have to close your facility to your regular customers for the event. Post signs so your customers are aware. This can also encourage your customer to participate in the event. Make sure your customers have a way to participate in the event at your facility.
Join a school or library child reading program
Depending on what your facility offers, getting involved in a reading program can boost your business. The way these programs work is once a child reads a certain amount of books their teacher or librarian rewards them with a coupon to your business. This could be a free game, free dinner, or free entry for a child. When the child comes to redeem their coupon, they will bring other paying customers. Win-win!
